Readers' Choice Awards 2000

Once again the readers have spoken, and once again "Oracle" was the word on many lips. But unlike in years past, Microsoft overtook Oracle and won the most categories. Oracle's wins were mostly in operational applications; Microsoft stole the database server category as well as some middleware and development environment top spots from Oracle. And Microsoft continued to provide the favorite OS, now occupying both first and second place with Windows NT and 2000, respectively.

Two landslide wins came in this year: Data Junction was the clear favorite in integration and transformation, and Boston whomped its runner-up Las Vegas as the favorite conference destination.

Ralph Kimball, the incumbent favorite columnist, and Joe Celko, incumbent close runner-up, held steady in their exalted places. Thanks to all the readers who cast their votes online.
